Entrepreneur and small business coaching is a conversation, a relationship, a system for change, it embraces the whole person and develops the leader in us all.

The times of transition in our lives often creates the most stress. The loss of a loved one, being down-sized out of a job – even happy changes like the birth of a baby, can cause distress and confusion. These are times when you need a “life change expert” a trusted life coach to assist you – help guide and support you to realize your personal goals and objectives, and gain personal insight through proven assessment, to determine the most effective and efficient life plan path to achieve what you truly desire in life.

A “life change expert” or life coach does not provide you with the answers - but through experience and training knows the right questions to ask to help you gain the personal insight for your own life situation and offers proven methods and processes to help you attain them. A life coach acts independently, as an objective resource, to help you to determine your goals, prioritize your actions, help you to manage your life and help you adapt and change to achieve want you truly want in life.

ORGANIZATIONAL COACHING

EQUIPPING Leaders, Leadership Teams, Managers, Supervisors, Tribes and Staff

Your company’s strategic plan is ready for implementation. You’ve conducted your environmental and organizational scans, gained input from key shareholders, envisioned the future, affirmed your mission, defined your values, articulated your goals and developed tactical plans for first year implementation. You have developed a strategic plan that you are confident will lead you in a direction of excellent products and services resulting in increased profits. Now all you and your executive team have to do is “make it happen”. How hard can that be?

Step back for a minute and ask yourself: Who will make the strategic plan come alive? How will we communicate our passion and vision to our employees? More importantly, how will our employees know their role in the vision so they can contribute and feel connected to making it happen? How will we know we’ve been successful?

The answer to these questions and the success of any change initiative or planning process your organization undertakes is based on two things…trust and empowering relationships. Now more than ever the ability of leaders (formal and informal) to build empowering relationships with employees that build trust is paramount to an organization’s success.

If you BELIEVE

  • One hundred percent in the capacity and ability of employees to be successful
  • Employees must learn how to listen and ask powerful questions rather than always being responsible for having all the right answers, and
  • Empowering others to take responsibility for their own development is important to your business success

Then COACHING is your answer.

How do you build relationships in the workplace that build trust and empower your employees to achieve the vision?

Coaching builds empowering relationships that result in trust. It is an important skill set for all employees to have, especially the executive leadership, managers and supervisors. When done effectively, coaching allows a supervisor to tap into the full potential of his/her employees. Effective coaching is asking powerful questions, listening (really listening) to what the employee is saying and believing that the employee can and will do what needs to be done when equipped with the right resources.

Now be honest with yourself. Do you really believe that you can trust your employees to do a good job? Can you empower your employees to take action without you or your leadership team micromanaging? If you honestly can’t answer yes to both of these questions then the time is not right to incorporate coaching into your culture. Don’t try it! The results could be more devastating than if you just continue conducting business as usual.

If you answered yes to trusting your employees to do a good job and empowering them to take action the next step is to realize that empowering a workforce is not a linear process. Rather it is a process much like making Jello. It requires the right recipe for the occasion (current strategic plan) and the highest quality ingredients (employees). Mixing the Jello with the right amount of liquid at the right temperature will determine your outcome. When mixed according to the recipe Jello can be turned out in molds that look like works of art and taste amazing (vision and outcomes). On the other hand if you use too much or not enough liquid, try to mix ingredients when they are not at the right temperature or try to hurry the process you end up with a concoction that falls short of being able to take to the family gathering. However when mixed according to your recipe with the highest quality ingredients that Jello dish can be the hit of any family gathering.

Coaching is the mold for our Jello recipe. The leaders of the organization (formal, informal, supervisors, managers, etc.) must be able to lead others through change and toward realization of the vision. They must be skilled at communicating and listening, especially listening. Coaching is the skill that will help your leaders be successful at all these things and much more. Coaching is the art of coming alongside a leader and helping him or her to grow. Coaching is a molding process. Empowered, relationship-oriented leaders and employees skilled at coaching greatly increase an organization’s chance of making long term, sustainable organizational and cultural change.

The organizational, business and leadership coaching provided by Hyden Consulting is based on a professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, business, or organizations. Coaching empowers your leaders to deepen their understanding of leadership change management, to improve their leadership performance thus enhancing their abilities to lead change initiatives and to mentor and empower employees. We know that one size does not fit all especially when addressing the needs and desires of our employees. Coaching by its very nature is based on individual goal setting unique to the needs of each employee within the context of the organization’s strategic plan.

HERE IS WHAT A FEW OF OUR EXECUTIVES HAVE SAID ABOUT THEIR COACHING EXPERIENCE:

How did it feel to be coached?

  1. I really enjoyed the experience. I felt comfortable with Linda Hyden. Felt I could be completely honest and open with her.
  2. It was nice to have the opinion of someone who doesn't work here yet has a idea of what goes on. I found it useful, it helped my frustrated attitude!
  3. Like I had someone "in my court" to hear my plans, goals, and concerns and offer unconditional support.
  4. I was leery at first, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
  5. Actually, I did not really feel like I was being "coached". Felt like I was talking to a person about interests and job and personal goals.
  6. I felt good about the coaching experience. It was very comfortable and supportive.
  7. I was worried about the concept initially. However, it did turn out to be valuable.

What has been the most significant or transforming thing that has happened in your coaching relationship? Why?

  1. I realized that I do use the coaching methods; I just didn't realize it!!
  2. That I do have some control over things that go on here, I just need to exert it more. I hate having the feeling that I must "clear" everything. I am following the Nike slogan now!
  3. Gave me confidence that I should trust my instincts because they're right.
  4. Confidence. I found talking with someone about my frustrations/accomplishments useful. It was great to have feedback from a peer.
  5. I am more aware of my relationship with co-workers. Through our sessions, I have recognized it is not about me but it is about our interaction with those around us. I have a keener sense of awareness.
  6. The most significant thing was to have an outside view of our actions and plans. Even if we are on track it helps to have it affirmed by an objective third party.
  7. Realize that you can open communication with someone peer or not, that can be a more rewarding value.

How has the coaching you've been engaged in been relevant to you and helped you grow? How? Please cite an example or two.

  1. It has helped me stay focused on my goals. I have been right on target with what I planned to accomplish.
  2. Just go ahead and do what you can, clear what you have too, with others, but there are alot of things that can be done that don't need permission.
  3. Somewhat relevant. I'm not sure I wouldn't have done exactly the same thing without coaching. Probably most relevant was that I was kept "on track" with deadlines and goals.
  4. It has helped me to see how others are dealing with issues - which in turn help me with my issues. I guess seeing things from a different point of view. It's like "You can't see the forest for the trees."
  5. I seem to be more aware; for example, I have attempted to "coach" one of our workers. She is good at her job and is content to be where she is until retirement. She has potential to do more. I have been trying to lead her to more challenges. Her first challenge was to head a training team, arrange for meeting dates, provide items of discussion, etc. So far she has accepted the challenge.
  6. The biggest thing has been that it highlighted the need for more structure to the process and more follow-up.
  7. Interaction with a friend to get them through a crisis.

What Happens in a Small Business/Entrepreneur Coaching Appointment?

Today, ninety percent of coaching is done over the phone or on the Internet. Coaching is a very self directed process and requires motivation and commitment on the part of the client. If you are ready to change your life then coaching is for you. Coaching appointments begin with a chance for you to report on your progress toward your goals, and end with a clear set of action steps you choose to take in the week(s) ahead. You will be challenged, held accountable and unconditionally supported during your coaching session. Entrepreneur and small business coaching is a conversation, a relationship, a system for change, it embraces the whole person and develops the leader in us all. Coaching is transformative, transparent, supportive, comprehensive and continuous.

  • Transformative CONVERSATION.
Your coach doesn’t give you “the” answers. Instead, powerful, incisive coaching questions stimulate you to examine the things in life that matter most from new angles. A coaching conversation can transform the way you look at your business, relationships and life.
  • Transparent RELATIONSHIP.
Your coach is your ally and confidant, your greatest supporter, your most avid cheerleader and someone who gets to know you well enough to call out the best in you. A transparent relationship with your coach frees you to go to places you’ve never gone before.
  • Support SYSTEM for CHANGE.
Your coach will help you stay focused and on track, will help you identify and overcome things that are keeping you from being successful and will convert your “want to do it” into concrete steps that “get it done”! With support, encouragement and accountability from someone who believes in you, you can do far more than you would ever accomplish alone and much more quickly.
  • Comprehensive Approach that EMBRACES THE “WHOLE YOU”.
We are complex beings with many parts: intellectual, emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual. When these “parts” are out of balance because of stress or other life factors you cannot perform at your best or find true joy and happiness in your life. Let’s face it. The reality of life is sometimes we get out of balance. We may be overly extended in one aspect of our life and totally ignore others without even realizing it. Your coach will help you to assess where you are and what parts of your life need balance. With the support and guidance of your coach you will find balance and increased happiness in your life.
  • Continuous LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT.
One of the biggest surprises for people being coached for the first time is to learn that coaches don’t give answers or find solutions. They empower you to find your own answers. Coaches help you learn instead of telling you what to do. By leveraging every situation to build your capacity as a leader and a person, coaching prepares you to conquer much bigger challenges in the future. A unique aspect of Hyden Heart Business and Leadership Coaching™ is you receive the best of both the coaching and business advising world all in one process. When you need to be coached that is what we do. When you need to delve deeper into specific small business, entrepreneurial, leadership or organizational development issues we do it. Coach Linda’s extensive experience as a small business owner and highly regarded management consultant combine to provide a unique and extraordinary coaching experience that is tailored to each person’s unique need and style.

What Can I Work On With a Coach?

The answer is, “Just about anything!” Increased performance; discovering your destiny and life purpose; spiritual healing; getting organized; finding balance in your family life, career, small business, or ministry; learning to love the skin you are in; turning a dream into reality… these are only a few of the answers. Remember that coaching works in just about any area because it is about helping you learn. A coach is not an expert advising you in a particular field (that’s consulting), or someone more senior who’s showing you the ropes (that’s mentoring). Coaches are change experts who help you find the solution for your unique situation. So if you want more from life – more growth, greater purpose, maximum performance, balance, spiritual growth, happiness and joy – contact Coach Linda and get started on the next phase of your life journey!
